Northern Water Snake Regurgitates Fish
A short clip of a Northern Water Snake regurgitating a fish. "The Northern Water Snake (Nerodia sipedon) is a large, non-venomous, well-known snake in the Colubridae family that is native to North America. They are active during the day and at night. They are most often seen basking on rocks, stumps, or brush. During the day, they hunt among plants at the water's edge, looking for small fish, frogs, worms, leeches, crayfish, salamanders, small birds and mammals. At night, they concentrate on minnows and other small fish sleeping in shallow water. It was once an endangered species but now benefits from the introduction of round goby, an invasive species." -Wikipedia CORRECTION!!! The snake was somewhat harmed because it lost its hard-earned food and experienced unnecessary stress. Please be careful when handling wildlife.

Its been known to travel up to 330 ft (100 m) in the air. ** Flying snakes are a small group of species of tree snakes that live in South and Southeast Asia. At rest they appear unremarkable, but on the move they're able to take to the air by jumping from the tree, *** There are five recognized species of flying snake, found from western India to the Indonesian archipelago. Knowledge of their behavior in the wild is limited, but they are thought to be highly arboreal, rarely descending from the canopy. I caught a snake
I caught this snake on the side of the road. It may have been run over by a car if it wasn't rescued. This Australian snake is called a Keelback Snake (Tropidonophis mairii). This belongs to the family Colubridae (which are back fanged snakes) and the sub-family Natricinae. These snakes are amazing evidence of evolution as they have begun to develop an immunity to bufotoxin which is the toxin which the introduced Cane Toad (Bufo marinus) exudes when attacked by a predator in addition to the skin and even the tadpoles having a toxic level sufficient to kill almost anything that preys on it. As a result, the Cane Toad has devastated much of the indigenous fauna population as it's reproduction goes unchecked. Now, this little snake is making a fight back with the ability to not only consume the tadpoles of the cane toad but the young toadlets and even juvenile toads. I will be letting this little beauty go tomorrow at the pond behind our house. Queensland Museum fact sheet - Keelback Snake www.qm.qld.gov.au

Dead Snake in South Italy, Sorrento
The cadaver of a snake (had difficulties to determine the species. Obviously a colubrid snake, Colubridae, probably a young Aesculapian snake ,Elaphe longissima,???) was found in Sorrento (Italy) near the beach. The cadaver is a habitat for flies and ants to feed on or to produce offspring there. Ant workers (probably a Lasius-species) collect food, while greenbottle flies (Lucilia sericata) and blue bottle fly (Calliphora vicina) also laid eggs.

The grass snake (Natrix natrix), sometimes called the ringed snake or water snake is a European nonvenomous snake. It is often found near water and feeds almost exclusively on amphibians. The name natrix is probably derived from the Latin nare or natare "to swim". The grass snake is typically dark green or brown in colour with a characteristic yellow collar behind the head, which explains the alternative name ringed snake. The colour may also range from grey to black, with darker colours being more prevalent in colder regions, presumably owing to the thermal benefits of being dark in colour. The underside is whitish with irregular blocks of black, which are useful in recognizing individuals. In Great Britain the grass snake is the largest reptile, reaching up to 190 centimetres (6 ft 3 in) total length, though such large specimens are rare. Females are considerably larger than males, typically reaching a size of 90--110 centimetres (2 ft 11 in--3 ft 7 in) when fully grown. Males are approximately 20 centimetres (8 in) shorter and significantly smaller in girth. Weight is about 240 grams (8 oz). Since the colour of its collar is often pale yellow to white in the Balkans region, the name for this snake in Serbian/Croatian language is belouška/bjelouška, which means "white-eared snake". (Wikipedia) Die Ringelnatter (Natrix natrix) ist eine zur Familie der Nattern (Colubridae) gehörende Schlangenart. Sie ist mit mehreren Unterarten in großen Teilen Europas und Asiens ...
